Pirate Invasion 2023
Pirate lovers rejoice! The “Pirates Are Coming” Festival, returns to Bald Head Island for a weekend of revelry and mayhem August 2-August 4, 2023.
In the 17th and 18th centuries, when pirates ruled the waters off the coast of North Carolina with greed and terror, Bald Head Island was a favorite refuge and base for notorious buccaneers. The waters surrounding Cape Fear were a hideaway for hundreds of pirates, the most famous of which were Edward Teach, better known as Blackbeard, and Stede Bonnet, the gentleman pirate. This year’s Pirate Invasion includes a pirate encampment, breakfast with the pirates, ghost walk, sea battle, paint a pirate ship, party with the pirates, breakfast with the pirates, music and more. Be sure to watch out for the Meeka II Pirate Ship arrival into the Bald Head Island Marina sometime on August 2, tide dependent. The sea battle can be seen from the shoreline near the harbour entrance.
