Fall Is In The Air
The season is changing and although saying goodbye to summer is never easy, the slight change in temperature brings on a whole new outlook. Many think Bald Head Island is best enjoyed with a brisk autumn breeze. Humidity is on its way out, the sunsets are the best, and there is still plenty to do for everyone.
Staying a few days or a week, let nature be your inspiration to bring a bit of fall decoration to your temporary beach home. These do-it-yourself fall trends are easy and fun! Decorating is a fun activity for all ages.
Is craving a pumpkin on your fall to-do list? You can purchase your pumpkins at the Maritime Market and head over to the Island Hardware on Bald Head Island for supplies.
Décor: Coastal Pumpkins
How to Create: First, pick out the size and shape of pumpkin that will best fit your plan. Cut from the top, then scoop the seeds and flesh with a serrated spoon. Sketch your coastal design on the pumpkin or print a template out and tape it on. Use a sharp knife to trace your pattern, then place a battery-operated candle inside and let your coastal pumpkin shine!
You can showcase your creation at the Bald Head Island Club’s annual Pumpkin Craving Contest, being held at the Bald Head Island Club on October 29, 2022. Entries are due in the lobby by 4:45 p.m. First place winner, $100; Second Place Winner, $50; and Third Place Winner, $25.See more on the club's website Bald Head Island Club.
How to Create a Wreath: Start with a bare or green wreath. Make a bow out of burlap and wrap each bow loop with silver wire to secure. Wrap bow base with green floral wire and secure to top of wreath. Not a bow maker, no worries use hot glue and Bald Head Island beach shells and Maritime Forest twigs. Hang on your front door and welcome guests to autumn on the coast!
How to Create a table display: Start with a walk-through nature. The M. Kent Mitchell Nature Trail and the Bald Head Woods Maritime Forest Preserve offering several trailheads both are located on Federal Road on Bald Head Island. Gather fallen leaves, pinecones, and branches. Purchase gourds at the Maritime Market and painting supplies at Island Hardware to paid pinecones, gourds, and other items you have collected. A trip to The Silver Peddler or Room Services may yield the perfect nautical starfish or shells to supplement accent the look. Spread a table runner or cloth and decorate the table with a collection of items. A large vase for the centerpiece filled with nature’s branches really sets the fall mood.
