7 Ideas for Your Fall Bucketlist

The fall season is coming up and it’s one of our favorite times of the year. Temperatures cooling off, leaves falling, stunning sunsets – it's the perfect time to visit Bald Head Island. While the scenery is beautiful all year, many choose to plan their vacation during the fall and we’ve rounded up some of our favorite things to do.

Bake a Pie – Sure, we could buy a pre-made pie but when was the last time you baked one yourself? During the fall season, you might start craving a fresh pie and now’s the perfect time to bake one, even if you never have before! Here’s a good apple pie recipe but if you want to work on the presentation with your own lattice, go here

Pumpkin Spice Latte – As soon as summer starts coming to an end, Pumpkin Spice flavored everything appears. You’ll see pumpkins out at stores for decorating and it’s a sign of the fall season. Lattes are a favorite for the season and are often only available during this time. Take the time now to perfect your own Pumpkin Spice Latte and save on those coffee shop trips.

Go on a Hike – Explore the island on foot by taking advantage of the hiking trails. Cooler temperatures make this more enjoyable. Nature trails provide nearly 360 degree views of the marsh. Check out the beautiful landscapes and wildlife with great company while perhaps burning off some vacation calories.

Have a Football Party – Most of us are excited for football season and we’re ready to make up for all the social distancing. Invite your friends over for a BBQ or picnic to watch your favorite teams play. You can order ahead from Maritime Market or plan your snacks out with grocery delivery.

Go Kayaking – Don't just admire the water views, take an adventure out on the water. The creeks of the island are easily accessed by kayaks and canoes. You can even have an experienced guide show you the ropes. The Bald Head Island Conservancy offers guided tours for individuals and small groups.

Nature Programs – The Bald Head Island Conservancy offers a wide range of kids and family friendly programs. Ride along with the Conservancy staff as they patrol the beach for nesting sea turtles. Learn about crabbing and cast netting and explore Bald Head Island after dark to learn about the wildlife.

Decorate for Fall – Whether you’ll be home or on a Bald Head Island vacation, you can decorate for the season with a fall wreath. You can make it a group DIY project and get some inspiration here. Put out some scented candles, decorate with some little pumpkins, and add a custom wreath to your front door.

Make the most out of the fall season by planning ahead. Add some of these to your itinerary that your family will love to do together. Time spent together with loved ones is time well spent and Bald Head Island will provide the perfect backdrop for the memories.
