Family Fun on Bald Head Island

The adventures outdoors for families are limitless. Explore the beach and all it has to offer, such as stand up paddle boarding, surfing, kiteboarding or walking with the turtles. If you prefer an adventure on land you can bike ride over 15 miles of roadway or hike through Maritime Forest Preserve spotting fiddler crabs. Not to mention kayaking the creeks, sailing through the ocean and fishing offshore. All some are family favorites!
Historic Sites
Old Baldy is North Carolina’s oldest standing lighthouse as well as one of the prettiest sights on Bald Head Island. Climb 108 steps to the top where you’ll find breathtaking views and great opportunities for a family picture. The Sail Shop’s Ghost Walk tour will take you through more than 350 years of island history, introducing you to the tales of lighthouse keepers, lifesavers, pirates and river pilots that make up Bald Head Island legend.
Nature Programs
The Bald Head Island Conservancy offers a wide range of kids and family friendly programs. Ride along with the Conservancy staff as they patrol the beach for nesting sea turtles. Learn about crabbing and cast netting at the Village Creek Access. Explore Bald Head After Dark, learning about bats, frogs, toads, alligators, fireflies and more! There is never a dull outdoor moment on Bald Head Island.
