Here Comes the Sun on Bald Head Island
Spring is one of our favorite seasons on Bald Head Island and it’s right around the corner. The sun is shining, the water is warmer, and the weather is pretty much perfection! Along with basking in the sun on one of Bald Head’s pristine sandy beaches, here’s five fabulous ideas that will have you enjoying the outdoors this spring on Bald Head Island.
Go Fish
Fishing on Bald Head Island is great all year around, but it’s especially exciting in spring. Go offshore to find a bounty of tuna in March. Surf fisherman can expect to see red drum, pompano, bluefish, Spanish mackerel, flounder and speckled trout. There’s a variety of outfitters and guides that will provide just what you need to for a big catch. They’ll even pick you up by boat in the harbor.
Take a Hike
You can take full advantage of spring with a hike through
maritime forest. Spring foliage blooming around your every step as you walk
uninterrupted through salt marsh, dunes and beach habitats. Bald Head Island
nature tours provide unique experiences for the whole family.
Kayak the Creeks
Glide through winding creeks enjoying pure quiet, silence
that brings you within feet of egrets as well as herons and beneath a group of
circling ospreys. The Bald Head Island Conservancy offers guided kayak and
canoe tours. Expert naturalists will take you through an inspiring tour.
Step it Up
108 steps that is, to get to the top of Old Baldy, the oldest standing lighthouse in North Carolina. It’s also one of the prettiest sights on Bald Head Island. Rising above trees, looking out over the sea and harbor, this historical landmark is a must climb when visiting the island in spring.
Hit the Links
The Bald Head Island Club golf course winds through the forest, under the eye of Old Baldy and out onto the dune ridge where an amazing view of the ocean waves hello for the final holes. Don’t miss the 6th or 7th
hole where Old Baldy watches over the course and hole 16 boasting ocean views.
Warm up at the on-site practice facility or enjoy a lesson from a PGA
