Local Review: Mojo’s on the Harbor
MoJo’s on the Harbor is a special spot on Bald Head Island for many reasons. For one, it’s the only waterfront dining experience on the island. Diners enjoy a relaxed atmosphere while getting beautiful views of the harbor watching the boats come in.
If you’ve been to MoJo’s before, you likely noticed the wall of dollar bills. The restaurant has been open for eight years and has accumulated dollar bills from all over. When MoJo’s first opened for business, its first customer was Brooke Williams, a friend of owners John and Andrea Pitera. He donated the first dollar to wish them luck. Brooke came down with pancreatic cancer and the Piteras decided to dedicate the wall to him.
When customers would visit, it became tradition to tack their own dollar bill to Brooke’s wall. Last month, John and Andrea sold the restaurant and donated the entire collection of dollar bills to Duke Hospitals where Brooke was treated for cancer. The total amount was over $17,000 that they generously donated towards Pancreatic Cancer Research.
As of October 8th, Dave and Jules Showalter are the new owners of the beloved restaurant. They have been homeowners on Bald Head Island for 19 years and were happy to take on this new venture. There will be some new menu items to include seafood and coastal options with a southern flair. They will also introduce a selection of North Carolina craft beers, ciders, and seasonal craft cocktails.
After enjoying the day at the beach or relaxing at your Bald Head Island vacation rental, head over to MoJo’s on the Harbor for a fabulous dinner and stunning views!
