Take a Hike in Bald Head Island

Bald Head Island is known for being an ideal getaway to relax and reset. Luxury homes along miles of pristine beaches make the scenery picture perfect. Any nature lover would be happy to get a chance to explore the island. Besides beautiful beaches, great shopping, and waterfront dining, there are a number of hiking trails to take advantage of. Here’s why we think you should definitely make hiking a part of your Bald Head Island vacation

Being outside is good for you in so many ways. You don’t have to spend hours in the great outdoors to get the health benefits either. Even a few minutes can boost your mood. But that’s not enough time to get in a good hike. Studies show that just the sound of nature will shift your nervous system into a relaxed state. It’s naturally calming!

The Bald Head Woods Maritime Forest Preserve offers several trailheads along either side of Federal Road. Whether you’re looking for a casual walk or a more experienced hike, you can find both while navigating through the woods beneath a canopy of trees. The M. Kent Mitchell Nature Trail gives great views of the marsh and you’re bound to find wildlife while exploring. Bring the kids and look for specific plants or animals and make it a fun day of search and find.

If you’d like a guide, The Bald Head Island Conservancy offers organized walks or hikes so you can learn about the island as you explore with an experienced naturalist. The Sail Shop offers a day of adventure on the Bluff Island Hike. You can take a kayak over and then hike the islands while getting unparalleled views of Cape Creek.

Sometimes a walk in nature is just what your soul needs to reset. Fresh air, the sounds of the outdoors, and brisk air or warm sunshine can help you let go of what’s weighing you down and embrace the positive. Our recent blog has some great advice on ways we can practice gratitude and make it a habit to enrich our own lives as well as others.

We know the luxury homes in Bald Head Island are exceptional and you may not want to leave but take some time to check out the trails while you’re here. Unplug and explore! You won’t regret it.
