Where to eat when you first arrive on Bald Head Island?
It’s Friday afternoon and you’ve just arrived on the Island. Undoubtedly excited for the trip ahead, you catch the tram to your new home to explore, unpack, and take in your new surroundings in the beautiful escape that is Bald Head Island. It’s usually about this time that reality (and your stomach) starts to set back in… ‘What are we going to eat for dinner?’
Luckily, the Island offers some pretty great choices to meet the mood and energy of most any crowd. Kids or no kids, fancy or casual - these places are sure to meet your needs no matter what ambiance or cuisine you’re after.
If you’re feeling…
Fresh seafood overlooking the harbor
Situated on the edge of the beautiful Bald Head Island marina, with an optional view of the historic Old Baldy, it’s no wonder Mojo’s on the Harbor continues to be an Island family favorite. Mojo’s on the Harbor offers fresh seafood in a casual atmosphere that’s perfect for groups of all sizes. Most high season weekends, you can find children dancing along to live band entertainment or locals crowded around the bar for a good sports game on TV.
Mojo’s on the Harbor is open for both lunch and dinner and is only a three minute walk from the Ferry Landing - making it the perfect pit-stop for hungry travelers. The restaurant offers everything from lobster tail to fried seafood baskets, and a range of burgers and pasta options for the less-seafood inclined. No matter whether it’s your first stop or not, Mojo’s on the Harbor is one Bald Head Island experience that can’t be missed.
Award-winning margaritas and Spanish cuisine
Also situated a stone’s throw from the Ferry Landing is the fairly new Delphina Cantina - a Tripadvisor Certificate of Excellence 2015 Winner known for its fresh, mouthwatering Spanish cuisine. Open 11 am to 9pm, Delphina Cantina offers outdoor seating and the perfect family setting for enjoying chips & salsa, tacos, burritos, enchiladas and a must-try Sangria.
This family owned restaurant is known for its great service and all around good food - not to mention its adjacent positioning next to the popular Sandpiper ice-cream shop. Go ahead, you’re on vacation!
Crowd-pleasing flatbread or pizza (to-go)
Sometimes the relaxing ambiance of Bald Head Island can be so contagious it’s hard to leave your new abode - we get it. That’s why we can’t recommend the crowd-pleasing option of the Pelicatessen’s To-go option enough. Centrally located in front of the Bald Head Island Country Club, the Pelicatessen is a great option for families wanting to enjoy their new home without dishes for a night.
In addition to its fresh smoothie bar, a popular spot for pool goers and tennis players, the Pelicatessen is open daily from 8am to 8pm and offers full meal options for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Whether you decide to lounge by the pool, eat in-house, or take it to-go, the Pelicatessen offers a variety of options to please the whole family. The breakfast platter, which includes your choice of eggs, sausage, toast, and hash browns is the perfect Saturday morning brunch and the large margherita pizza never disappoints after a long day on the beach. For to-go orders just make sure to call ahead 10-15 minutes before - the most recent menu can be found here.
A night to remember
Alternative to a quiet night in is the memory of a night you’ll never forget. That’s exactly what you’ll find in a dining experience at the Shoals Club on East Beach. From the sweeping views of the ocean to the delectable array of menu options, the dining ambiance and food at the Shoals Club is sure to leave an impression long after you leave.
The location, an island favorite for wedding photos and receptions, is known for its picturesque views of the ocean and its handsome dining room area and bar. The beautifully prepared menu emphasizes fresh ingredients and changes seasonally. While local fresh seafood specialties are favorites, the dining room is also known for its excellent steak and carefully chosen wine selection, perfectly paired with each meal. For a night this special, make sure to book reservations ahead.
