Sea Turtle Nestings Up in 2013
The Bald Head Island Conservancy is reporting a banner year for sea turtle nestings on the island - 116 nests and counting. According to Suzanne Dorsey, Executive Director of the Conservancy, "the last time we saw numbers like this, it was the last century."
Other recent years with big numbers for Bald Head Island were 1998 with 108 nests, and 2008 with 104. To learn more about the 2013 turtle season, read this article from the State Port Pilot.
The Conservancy's Sea Turtle Protection Program is nationally recognized, and their popular Turtle Walk program allows visitors to view a nesting or hatching in person with Conservancy staff and volunteers.
