The Old Baldy Foundation is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to the maintenance and preservation of the Old Baldy Lighthouse, the only remaining of three lighthouses that have stood on Bald Head Island. In 2009, the Old Baldy Foundation acquired the first order Fresnel Lens that was originally housed in the Cape Fear Lighthouse (once located on the southeastern tip of the island) more than 100 years ago. When the Cape Fear Lighthouse was demolished in 1958, the lens was salvaged and eventually ended up in an antique shop in Wilmington. The Old Baldy Foundation is raising funds to restore the glass portions of the lens and to build a new building to permanently store and display the lens to the public.
